If your bathroom grout is cracking, going dark, or crumbling away between the tiles, you are not doing anything wrong — it happens in almost every bathroom eventually. The good news is that in most cases the tiles are still fine and only the grout needs attention.
A few everyday things wear grout down:
Grout is not just there to look neat — it is the seal that keeps water out from behind your tiles. Once it cracks or drops out, water gets in behind the wall. That can lead to damaged plaster, mould, a musty smell, and tiles that start to sound hollow or come loose. Fixing the grout early is far cheaper than dealing with water damage later.
Re-sealing only helps if the grout is still sound. Once it is cracked or missing, the proper fix is to remove the old grout and re-grout the area. For showers and wet areas we recommend epoxy regrouting, which is Water Resistant and far more durable than cement.
